Accessibility to health care could be one the problems faced by the recently immigrant elderly:
- lack of knowledge of the availability of health care
- lack of health insurance
- transportation – cannot use public transportation, cannot drive, dependent on their children
- monetary – cost of treatment, expensive, most are dependent on their children
- language – unable to communicate in English, lack of translation; inability to read medication labels in English
- abandonment by adult children after immigration
- learned helplessness
- not wanting to burden their children financially
