Eliciting the Patient’s Perspective

It is important to recognize that some patients may harbor mistrust related to their experiences as part of the political history with the US and other colonizing countries. To better assess the elder patient’s perspective about whether this may be an issue for him or her, you should ask the patient where he came from and the circumstances that brought him to the US. This background will most likely play a part in this patient’s perspective on his/her healthcare.
